Today, I want to talk to you about something that’s been on my mind for a while now. I turned vegan a year and a half ago. To this day, the topic of my diet is still very popular. I just want to point out, I’m usually not the one starting or even participating in those kind of debates, but lately I’ve had enough of the provocations, so I just want to clear some things up, so we can drop this subject once and for all. I want to put it to rest, because I am tired of arguing and defending something that’s my personal right to choose. Those mean vegan jokes that are circling around were the last straw and you got me to the point where I will say my piece.
There are usually three typical responses when it comes to what I eat.”I couldn’t survive without cheese“, “What do you even eat? Just soy?” and the infamous “Where do you get your proteins?“. I used to smile politely, even laughed maybe, “yeah, good one, sometimes it’s hard, yes“. But deep down I grew more and more annoyed. Just google it, goddamit! I highly doubt that your plate holds only meat, eggs and dairy.
First of all, what you eat is your personal choice, as it is mine. I don’t nag you about the steak you ordered and you don’t get to comment on my tofu. While I support everyone that turns to plant-based diet, I don’t judge you if you don’t. Frankly, I couldn’t care less. That’s why there’s absolutely no need for you to defend sticking with meat.
Secondly, being vegan is a part of me, not my entire personality. I am still a woman, a student, chocoholic, procrastinator and so much more. It doesn’t define me and I can talk about other things, believe me. Actually, please let me talk about something else, because I am really not into those judgy debates. I turned vegan because of myself. Not society, not my friends, not because I think I am something more, which I am absolutely not.
Don’t just assume I will openly hate and judge you because you eat chicken wings in front of me, when in fact the majority of shaming comes from you. It pisses me off how people have the audacity to openly judge my lifestyle with comments like “our body needs dairy and/or meat“, “you can’t be healthy without this and that“, but they don’t even know what vegan meals really consist of. Do your research before you take it out on me, please. I am happy to say, I am feeling great and am completely healthy, proved even by doctors. While you try and sell me all those “health” arguments why meat is good for the system, we can all just agree, carnivore diet is much easier in our society. There’s no health benefits behind it, mainly just convenience.
And I agree, some people are too aggressive when it comes to advertising their way of eating, but that goes both ways. All that I am really trying to say is, eat whatever you like, for yourself, not for others. Less judging will make a world more enjoyable. I can honestly say, vegan diet has make me more aware of things around me and inside of me.
This post is not meant to be a rant of any kind. But I am tired of having to defend myself every time someone has five minutes to talk about food. I am done laughing off the ignorance. Get informed before you start half-hearted debates over why you can’t live without cheese with me. So next time, instead of sticking your nose into someone’s plate, try wishing your fellow human a bon appetite. ;)

Hvala Maja! <3
Pomojem smo vsi na istem nažalost haha :D Ampak res no! Men je res dovolj vsakič znova razlagat ene in iste stvari, ki si jih lahko prebereš v prvih treh zadetkih, če vtipkaš Vegan na Google.
